Factores Socioculturales y Estilos de Vida Asociados al Tabaquismo en Comunidad Universitaria de Bolivia

El tabaquismo es un problema de salud pública en comunidades universitarias. Este estudio transversal investigó la prevalencia y los factores socioculturales y de estilo de vida asociados al consumo de tabaco en 224 estudiantes y trabajadores de la Universidad Nacional Ecológica en Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Se encontró una prevalencia de tabaquismo del 76.3%. El análisis, mediante Chi-cuadrado y Odds Ratio (OR), reveló una fuerte asociación con tener fumadores en el hogar (OR: 4.8), familiares fumadores (OR: 2.4) y amigos fumadores (OR: 6.9). Asimismo, el estrés percibido se asoció significativamente con el hábito de fumar. Estos hallazgos subrayan la influencia del entorno social y el bienestar emocional en el tabaquismo, y la necesidad de desarrollar intervenciones de salud pública culturalmente adaptadas para la prevención y cesación del tabaquismo en el contexto universitario boliviano.
